Attracting Affiliates to Promote Your Offers

As a vendor, one of the most beneficial things you can do for your business is finding good affiliate marketers to promote your product.

This article discusses the benefits of working with affiliates, ways of making your product more visible and attractive to affiliates, and ways to recruit affiliates to market your product.

Benefits of Working With Affiliates

One of the biggest benefits of being a ClickBank vendor is having access to our army of motivated affiliates. Many vendors ask themselves, "What's in it for me?" when it comes to using affiliates. Some vendors don’t like the idea of sharing a commission for their product. After all—you did the work in creating the product; why should you give away the majority of the sale to an affiliate?

The reason is because the affiliate network is an extremely effective channel you can use to increase your product’s visibility and add to your revenue. Many of our affiliates are well established, and have a large audience or advertising budget. Whether it’s through email lists, blogs, paid advertising or social media, they can reach an audience looking to purchase the products they refer. The affiliate network is one of the most cost-effective forms of advertising out there, because you only pay affiliates a commission (which you set) when a successful sale is made. You don't pay them per click or per lead.

Setting Commissions

You can set a commission percentage for your account. Affiliates who drive a sale receive this percent of the earnings after ClickBank's fees.

While you can set any commission percentage you choose, we recommend that you be generous with commissions. Since affiliates are only paid for successful sales, they are sensitive to the potential return on their investment. Affiliates are more likely to promote products that offer commissions between 50% and 75%.

You can set different commissions for specific products or affiliates, which are used in place of the account-wide commission rate. See the Affiliate Commission Hierarchy article for more information.

To Set a Commission Percentage

  1. Log in to your ClickBank account.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click My Site.
  4. Locate the Marketplace Information section and click Edit.
  5. Enter a new value in the Commission field.
  6. Click Save Changes.

Adding a Marketplace Listing

The ClickBank Marketplace shows all active accounts with products currently for sale. Affiliates use the Marketplace to find products to promote. By creating a descriptive marketplace listing, you can make your products attractive to affiliates.

The important question that affiliates want to know about your product is, "What's in it for me?" Before knowing anything else about your product, they want to know why they should choose to promote yours over the thousands of other products available in the Marketplace.

The marketplace description is your chance to highlight how your products benefit affiliates. Be honest and set realistic expectations for the affiliate. If they choose to promote your products based on claims about how well they convert or how much support you provide for affiliates, they'll quickly stop promoting your product if they feel your claims aren't justified. Some of the benefits that affiliates know to look for and value:

  • Good conversion rate (ratio of visitors to a site who end up buying)
  • High average $ earned/sale
  • Vendors who provide an affiliates page with useful information for affiliates promoting the product (see below for more details)
  • If a product offers recurring commissions, as in the case of subscription or membership products
  • Low refund rate
  • Any unique or interesting details about your product that make it unique
  • If the product is in a "hot" niche

Mentioning any of the above benefits that apply to your product can be a great way to communicate to affiliates that your product is worth promoting.

You can also provide other information to display in the Marketplace:

  • Your marketplace category and subcategory – The type of products offered by your account. Many affiliates specialize in specific product types, so specifying the correct category and subcategory is important.
  • Commission Rate – The base commission rate for your account.
  • Affiliate Tools URL – A page that you create to provide graphics, copy, or other tools for affiliates. 
  • Affiliate Support Email Address – An email address that affiliates can use to contact you.

If your account has no sales for 12 weeks, your Marketplace listing will be deactivated. You can contact ClickBank or make a sale to reactivate it.

NOTE – Each account can only have one Marketplace listing. If you want to have multiple listings, consider opening multiple accounts. We offer a discounted price of $29.95 on additional accounts. When you send in your product approval request, indicate in the Comments section that you already have an account and provide your account nickname, and we will send you the discounted sales link.

To Add a Marketplace Listing

  1. Log in to your ClickBank account.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click My Site.
  4. Locate the Marketplace Information section and click Edit.
  5. Enter a title and description.
  6. Click Save Changes.
    The new title and description are displayed in your Marketplace listing and in your Vendor Spotlight page. You can view your Marketplace listing by entering your account nickname in the Marketplace search.

Creating a Vendor Spotlight

A Vendor Spotlight is an easy and powerful way for you to provide more information to affiliates directly from the Marketplace.


Vendor Spotlight provides a platform to let you tell affiliates more about you and your products, including your stats, your customer facing ads, and show them your membership image. You can also recommend other accounts, either yours or other trusted vendors, that affiliates can promote. This allows you to communicate with your affiliates more effectively than ever before! The most exciting feature of Vendor Spotlight is that you can make announcements to clients, letting them know about upcoming product launches, changes to your products, suggestions and resources for promoting your products effectively, and other important news and information.

Conditions for Use

To help ensure the effectiveness and integrity of the Vendor Spotlight for all of our vendors, Vendor Spotlight is offered with the following conditions:

  • The Vendor Spotlight is part of the ClickBank Services, as defined in the ClickBank Client Contract and is subject to all of the terms and conditions (including any prohibitions of content contained in) the Client Contract.
  • By using the Vendor Spotlight, you specifically agree that any and all statements or claims made by you via the Vendor Spotlight constitute a Promotion and, as required by Section 2(d) of the Client Contract, you will not make any false or deceptive statement or claim and will ensure that all claims, statements, and/or representations made by you via the Vendor Spotlight will be accurate and contain all disclosures and disclaimers necessary to prevent such claims, statements, and/or representations from being false or deceptive.
  • You will not use the Vendor Spotlight to infringe or violate the rights of any Person (including any IP Rights); or make any claims, statements, and/or representations that are unlawful, threatening, abusive, false, libelous, defamatory, obscene, pornographic, profane, or otherwise infringing or objectionable content or material of any kind.
  • ClickBank reserves the right to suspend the ability of any Vendor to use the Vendor Spotlight at any time.
  • You are and shall remain solely responsible for the content of any claims, statements, and/or representations you make via the Vendor Spotlight, and by using the Vendor Spotlight, you are expressly agreeing and confirming that your indemnification obligations under Section 13 of the Client Contract with respect to Promotions shall apply.

Updating Your Vendor Spotlight

Once your account is activated, you can create a Vendor Spotlight.

  1. Log in to your ClickBank account.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click My Spotlight.
  4. At the right side of the Profile Settings section, click Edit.
  5. Update any of the following profile settings:
    • Profile Image – An image that is displayed in your Vendor Spotlight. You can select any of your approved images.
    • Marketplace Title/Description – These fields are displayed here, but they must be edited from the My Site section. See To Add a Marketplace Listing for more information.
    • Affiliate Tools URL – The Affiliate Tools page that will be linked from your Vendor Spotlight. If you have a page with information or resources that affiliates can use to promote your products, enter that link here. See Creating Tools for Affiliates for more information.
    • Allow Recommendations – Checking this checkbox lets other vendors recommend you on their Vendor Spotlight pages. This is checked by default.
    • Recommended Accounts – These are other accounts that are listed as recommended on your Vendor Spotlight page, such as your other accounts or other trusted vendors who you would recommend to affiliates. These accounts are not endorsed or recommended by ClickBank. Enter one or more account nicknames, then click Add Account(s).
  6. Click Save Changes.
    Your Vendor Spotlight page is updated.

On the My Spotlight page, you can also click the View Your Spotlight Profile button to see what your profile looks like to others. Your Spotlight Profile will open in a new tab or window.

Posting Announcements

You can create an announcement for release on your Vendor Spotlight page. Announcements can be created on a weekly basis, and the announcement content, including the subject and body, can occupy up to two pages of space. Text, website URLs, and email addresses can all be included in the body of an announcement.

The ideal use of announcements is to post updates about your products and services. We recommend that you only make announcements when you have new content for them.

  1. Log in to your ClickBank account.
  2. Click the Settings tab.
  3. Click My Spotlight.
  4. At the right side of the Announcements section, click Add New Announcement.
  5. In the Subject field, enter a subject for your announcement.
  6. In the Body field, enter the content for your announcement. You can format this content using the formatting icons.
  7. (Optional) Click Preview to preview your announcement.
  8. Click Save Changes.
    Your announcement is submitted for approval and given a status of Pending Approval on your My Spotlight page. Once it has passed a security review, it is visible to affiliates.

NOTE – ClickBank only reviews Promotions for content that is patently illegal, inappropriate or obscene on its face. ClickBank does not investigate or verify or assume responsibility for the accuracy of any claims or representations you make or make any determination as to whether you have the right to use any content. ClickBank's approval of Promotions should not be interpreted as an endorsement or approval of your Promotion. Even after approval, you remain solely responsible and liable for any and all content contained in your Promotion.

Creating Tools for Affiliates

One of the best ways to attract affiliates is to make their job easier for them by providing a page on your website with extensive information and tools for them that make promoting your product easier.

Not only does providing affiliates with tools they can use to promote you benefit them, it benefits you! By creating banner images, email scripts, text ads and more, you take control of your product, brand and image.

Useful content to provide to affiliates includes things like:

  • Attractive banner ads, buttons, graphics, etc, that they can paste directly into their site with their HopLink to your product. It's a good idea to provide a wide variety of graphics in different sizes, formats, etc
  • Suggested keywords that relate to your product, which they can either bid on in paid advertising, or try to rank in search engines to drive free traffic to your website
  • An FAQ about your product that they can use to write articles about your product or provide information to potential customers
  • General tips about how to promote your product, such as "inside information" about your niche that an outsider wouldn't know, suggestions for how to convince visitors to click their HopLink, etc
  • Examples of articles or topics that would be of interest to your potential customers, which they can use for articles or advertising
  • Testimonials you've received about your product
  • A step-by-step description of how to become an affiliate, for people who aren't already familiar with ClickBank but would like to promote your product to others
  • Any additional pre-sales material they can use on their site, such as a video about your product that can use their HopLink to send the visitor to your Pitch Page after the video

When providing any kind of affiliate materials that require working with HTML or other code, it's a good idea to provide the exact code for affiliates to copy and paste into their website, since many people aren't very comfortable working directly with code.

The more help you can offer your affiliates, the more they'll be willing to promote your product, which is a win-win. Since producing these materials often only takes time or the relatively small cost of hiring a graphic designer to make buttons and graphics for you, creating a truly useful and attractive page for affiliates is an excellent investment in your product that can easily pay for itself.

NOTE – We strongly recommend that as part of your affiliates page, you include things like an Earnings Disclaimer (which states that any estimates of how much affiliates can make by promoting your product is just that- an estimate and not a guarantee) and an Anti-Spam Policy, stating that you will not tolerate affiliates who promote your product through illegal or unethical techniques, and warning them that ClickBank may terminate their affiliate account, and that they will not be allowed to promote your product if they do so. These types of disclaimers set important expectations for your affiliates, so they know what behaviors are acceptable before they start promoting your product.

Recruiting Affiliates

Rather than waiting for affiliates to stumble across your product, why not actively recruit affiliates to promote it? Many of the top ClickBank vendors do this, and the time and effort you put into it can generate big returns. There are many different ways you can go about this, but some popular practices are:

  • Recruit on forums – There are quite a few forums dedicated to affiliate marketing. Although you should always check a forum's policies before posting about your product and trying to recruit affiliates, many forums allow this and it is a common practice. However, you should be aware that many vendors promote their products to affiliates via this method, so to really stand out and capture affiliates' attention, you should try to find ways to differentiate your product from others and answer "What's in it for me?" as well as offering great tools and support to affiliates.
  • Social media – Rather than just waiting for affiliates to find you, one great way to attract them is to get your name and product out there via social media marketing. If you can build a presence for yourself on popular networks like Facebook, Twitter, and others, this can be a good way to recruit affiliates. If you become a trusted expert in your field, such as fitness or Internet marketing, potential affiliates will learn about you from other people they connect with on the social networks, and will be interested in promoting what you have to sell. In addition, it can be a great way to communicate with existing affiliates and let them know about new products you have coming out, or changes to your existing product, like if you raise your commission rate or are offering special bonuses to affiliates. Participating in social media can be useful in other ways too, since it lets you keep an eye on what types of products and offers affiliates are interested in, as well as trends or concerns in your area of expertise.
  • Join My Affiliate Program link – With ClickBank's Join My Affiliate Program (JMAP) link, a vendor can recruit affiliates directly. All affiliates must have a ClickBank account. If they don’t have one already ask them to sign up using our signup page.

Here's what happens when a potential affiliate clicks the JMAP link on your website:

  1. The affiliate will be asked to fill in their ClickBank nickname and an optional tracking ID. If they do not have a ClickBank nickname already registered they will be given an error. If an affiliate has a problem with registering on the JMAP ask them to sign up using our signup page. Remind them that affiliate accounts are free!
  2. If successful the next page shows the affiliate how to make a HopLink to promote your products
  3. We close our JMAP window so they end up back at your site

  1. Replace VENDOR with your vendor nickname.
