Why Every Vendor Should Be An Affiliate

In the past, many ClickBank vendors have been content selling a single product with ClickBank and never following up with their customers to sell more products. This has caused them to miss out on a huge income opportunity that requires very little extra work. Wouldn’t it be great to increase your ClickBank income without having to grow your customer base? The good news is that it’s easier than you might think! How, you might ask? By engaging with your customers repeatedly, and therefore selling products to the same customers over and over. Successful vendors believe:

  • Front-end product sales are a mechanism for acquiring new and qualified customers
  • Selling a low-priced front-end product sets the stage for additional back-end product profits
  • You can be both a vendor who creates content and an affiliate who promotes other vendors’ products at the same time

Believe it or not, one of the easiest ways to grow your business with ClickBank is to start promoting other vendors’ products as an affiliate. Think about it this way... Every customer that visited your site and provided you with their email address and/or purchased your product is interested in your product and its niche. Instead of letting the leads you capture go to waste or forget who you are before you have time to create your next product, you can easily begin promoting relevant products to your list. By offering additional high quality products to your customers, you can grow your business, gain even more credibility, and earn $$$ for each sale you refer.

Earnings Per Customer Breakdown

Here is an example of a way a vendor could increase their earnings per customer by promoting relevant products as an affiliate: You’re currently selling your product for $24.00 and offering a 60% commission to affiliates who promote your product. After ClickBanks fees and the affiliate cut, you keep $8.48. This means that without additional sales, each customer is worth this amount to you. Here is the breakdown:

Product Price –                                                 $24.00

ClickBank Fee (7.5%+$1)-                                 -$2.80

Sub-Total-                                                        $21.20

Affiliate Commission (60%)                              -$12.72

Vendor Keeps                                                    $8.48

Now let’s say that you were able to successfully promote two additional $18.00 products per year to that customer while earning 75% commission for each sale.  Your earnings per customer is now $31.96.   Here is what this looks like:

Product Price-                                                    $18.00

ClickBank Fee (7.5%+$1)-                                  -$2.35

Sub-Total-                                                         $15.65

Affiliate Commission (75%)            $11.74 * 2 = $23.48

Total Earning Per Customer = $23.48 + $8.48 = $31.96

How to Locate Good Quality Products to Promote

The best way to locate additional products to promote in your niche is to visit the ClickBank Marketplace. The ClickBank Marketplace is the place where affiliates go to find ClickBank vendors to promote and create properly formatted HopLinks. There are 23 main product categories, with subcategories within each. When searching for products in the Marketplace, it’s important to remember that you’re focusing on products that your customers will find value in and want to purchase. Customers are more inclined to purchase products that are relevant to a product they’ve already paid for and found value in. Here are some examples of relevant products you could promote:

  • You sell: weight training product → Promote: diet plan for building muscle
  • You sell: how to build a garden → Promote: how to grow the perfect tomato
  • You sell: how to be a junior basketball coach → Promote: how to jump higher book
  • You sell: how to plan a Halloween party → Promote: tips for party planning

Vendor Spotlight

Some vendors will create a Vendor Spotlight page that can be accessed in their Marketplace Listing. The Vendor Spotlight page provides the affiliate with more information about the product, including the vendor’s sales stats, customer facing ads, and product image. One of the exciting features of Vendor Spotlight is that the vendors can send announcements to affiliates letting them know about upcoming product launches, changes to the product, suggestions and resources for promoting products, and other news or information. After looking through the Vendor Spotlight, if one is available, make sure you take a look at the vendors Pitch Page to verify the product is a good fit for your promotion. Some vendors also provide an affiliate tools page on their website that can include extensive information for making their product easier for affiliates to promote. These things can include:

  • Banner ads, buttons, graphics
  • Suggested keywords
  • Product FAQ
  • Tips for promotion
  • Automated HopLink creation
  • Pre-sale materials

Verify Product Quality

It’s important to promote good quality products to your customers, so we recommend reaching out to the vendor directly and letting them know you’re interested in promoting their product. Some vendors are willing to provide potential affiliates with added tools and possibly a sample copy of their product for you to review. By reviewing the product copy you will be able to determine:

  • If the product quality and content meets your standards
  • If your customer base will have interest in the product
  • How you can effectively pitch the product to your customers
  • And most importantly, if this product is one you want to promote

Keeping your customers satisfied and providing a high quality product is a must in order to keep your business profitable and running effectively. If the vendor doesn’t provide you with a free copy we recommend you purchase the product so you know exactly what you’re promoting. Purchasing the product will also provide insight into the customer experience and give you an idea of how the product is delivered and the level of support provided by the vendor.

Proper Promotion

There are a number of ways that you can promote ClickBank products as an affiliate. Some examples include:

Direct Email Marketing to your List

The easiest way for a vendor to promote a product as an affiliate is by contacting everyone in your customer list by email. The people within your list have shown interest in your product and its niche, so they will be receptive to receiving information about other products they might be interested in purchasing. One option is to send out weekly/biweekly/monthly emails to your list spotlighting new, relevant, and good quality products on a consistent basis. You could also reach out to your list to find out what products they’re most interested in. Then, by utilizing the ClickBank Marketplace and the information on how to locate good quality products, you can determine what products to promote that meet your customer’s needs.

Affiliate Promotions Page

Creating a page that your customers can view after their purchase is a great way to recommend additional products that your customers might be interested in. By providing a quick review of the product and a list of the benefits, your customers will be able to easily and quickly determine if it’s something they want to purchase. This is a great option if you don’t have a lot of time to work on affiliate promotions. You could locate a handful of good quality products and add them to a recommendation page that is linked to your current website. Once you have selected the products you want to promote, you can notify your entire customer list and provide them with the URL to your new recommended resources page. Just a side note, when using a page like this it’s important that you make it clear that you are an affiliate for the product(s). This is both legally required by the FTC and also reassures customers that you’re not trying to trick them into buying something. By making your affiliation relationship clear but providing good reasons why you recommend it, you further establish your trustworthiness and transparency with your audience.

Social Media Marketing

Over the last few years social media marketing has exploded. Social media is an easy way to advertise and drive free traffic! “Social media” is a very broad term that includes sites and services like Twitter, Facebook, Myspace, social bookmarking sites like Digg, Del.icio.us, Youtube, and many more. The main benefits of using social media to promote products is that it’s free and that your message has the potential to “go viral” and reach a huge amount of people quickly with no extra effort on your part. The difficulties of social media are how to get your voice heard above the millions of other people out there, and how to avoid being seen as a social media “spammer.” The key to being successful promoting products in the social media space is to provide content that’s worthwhile enough for people to actually want to follow you and take your advice when you recommend products. One key thing to remember in all promotions is the message you send to your list needs to be simple and honest. Let the potential customers know that you’ve taken the time, on their behalf, to locate good quality products that could help them or that they might have interest in. You can send multiple emails out to your list with different recommendations depending on the products you’re promoting and the interests of your customers.

Best Practices for Promoting to your Customer List

Lead Capture

In order to promote relevant products you must first have a list of customers and potential customers to target. One of the best ways to do this is to integrate with an opt-in email marketing provider like AWeber. They will help you collect and manage your subscribers by creating professional email signup forms that you place on your website.

Cultivate Customer List

It’s very important to keep in regular contact with your customers. The easiest way to do this is by email. Along with the collection of subscriber information AWeber allows you to automatically send messages to your customer or prospect list at specified times, or to send a “broadcast” message to your list(s) whenever you choose. For example, you can automatically email the customer thanking them for their purchase, provide them with a quick, helpful tip, or send them a useful review of one of the items you’re promoting. By keeping in contact with your customer list regularly, you build your credibility as an vendor while introducing customers to other valuable products in your niche.

Track Your Progress

In order to be a successful affiliate you must track your promotional efforts so you know what promotional method and pitch is working for you. If you’re using multiple promotional methods, you should set up a Tracking ID for each method so you can compare the results to determine what is working and not working. Also make sure to view the Analytics page in your ClickBank Account. ClickBank Analytics offers the ability to interactively produce trend charts on Hops, order form impressions, conversions and other statistics over time.

Promote Multiple Products

The idea behind promoting is to offer a product similar to, or supplementary/complementary to, your own within your niche. As a ClickBank affiliate there is no limit to the amount of products you can promote, so the best option is to promote multiple products, giving the customer a broader range of products to consider. This also means more $$$ for you!

The Most Important Rule of Affiliate Marketing

Only Promote Good Quality Products! The success of your business depends heavily on your reputation for selling good quality and useful products. It’s key that you only recommend products to your customer list that you’ve tested, found useful, and believe will be beneficial to your customers. Your customers will appreciate the effort you’re making and will trust your recommendations. When your customer trusts you the more willing they are to purchase from you again and again!
